Hebrews!

What do a first aid kit, a road map, and a broom all have in common? The answer….none of them are of any use unless they are used. So it is with the truth that we have discovered as we’ve studied the book of Hebrews. It has been a great focus on a book to study for this time in the life of our church, and the life of the people who attend our church.

As you may recall, the purpose I stated in wanting to study the book of Hebrews was that it clearly declared that Jesus is the best and, really only, option for the spiritual need in our lives. When the challenges of life come...there is Jesus. When everyone around you is trying to get you to buy into some new type of ‘saviour’, there is Jesus as the anchor for our hope.

The truth about Jesus, in my mind, does two things:
First—It establishes our own security and foundation as we place our trust and hope in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. It provides for us the peace that our sin problem has been dealt with and our eternal life plan, established.
Secondly—It becomes our motivation to reach out to others with the same good news that set us free. With Jesus being so good to us, so necessary in our lives, so essential to our life, death and eternal life, we must tell others. As the Apostle Paul once wrote, we are to be actively involved in the ministry of reconciliation. We are the communicators of the truth that Jesus is the source of life. We are the ones God has entrusted with the message of the love and justice and relationship with our Holy God.

BUT… if we simply say, “good study, it was very interesting”, but do not apply the knowledge and truth...it is like a first aid kit at an accident site that is never opened and used. It is like a road map in the glove compartment that is never taken out, even though we are very lost. It becomes a useless tool to bring purity to our lives, like a broom in the closet, while dust bunnies drift through our homes and lives.

The truth of Hebrews is truth for today. It must be applied to our lives on a daily basis so that we may live differently in the world God has called us to. To have a life in ourselves that is characterized by a display of His Holiness. That proper use of our humanity that makes God visible in us.

As we study Chapter 13 this Sunday, we will focus on three different areas where we live.
Life in the world! Life in the Body! Life at the Centre!
Take a few minutes and read through chapter 13 of the book of Hebrews before Sunday morning and take a bit of an inventory as to how you think you’re doing with the truth from the book of Hebrews.
Please don’t treat it like an unused first aid kit, a stored road map, or a broom in the closet. Allow the Holy Spirit to use the information to transform your life.

Blessings,
Pastor Brian
