Christmas at McDermot

Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is coming to a close this Sunday. If you decided to pack a shoebox, remember to Bring it so that it can be included in the shoeboxes that are being sent from our Church.

Christmas Dinner Celebration—Saturday, December 2—5:30pm
This is shaping up to be a great evening of food, interacting with our church family and friends, and focusing on our Celebration this Christmas. What better way to begin this season than with a dinner with church family and friends. If you are wondering if you can invite your friends and neighbours...absolutely! Have them come and enjoy this evening together. You can even afford to buy their ticket at it will just cost $5.00 for Adults and $2.50 for children(4-13) and those under 4 free. There will be singing, special music, a children’s choir feature and a beautiful way of showcasing our multi-ethnic traditions. One of our focus points this evening is on demonstrating the attitude of a Servant at Christmas. You will be encouraged to bring a towel and face cloth to give to the women and children at Osborne House. This place is one that provides a safe place for Women and children that find themselves in a difficult place. They are in need of towels and face cloths at this time so we are going to put a towel over our arms and help. Bring your towels and face cloths that evening as we will give them as a huge servant gift from our church.

Christmas Hamper Challenge
Each year this is gaining more and more momentum. We started with 7 the first year, and then last year we collected enough for 20 hampers that were delivered to needy families. This year our goal has increased to 30 hampers for 30 families that are connected to our church family or housed in Lazarus housing projects. Begin now to bring goods for the Hampers and let’s make some homes brighter this Christmas with our love and food.

Christmas Focus
This year our theme is “The Nativity in Your Neighbourhood!” We start out with advent candle lighting on December 3 and will begin our teaching series that day as well. From “What’s in a Name? - Jesus!” to the focus of our Christmas Eve Celebration—”Don’t Leave a Gift Unopened!”, our attention will be on discovering what it looks like to have the Nativity in your life, your home, your community and our city.

Christmas Eve Celebration
Don’t Leave a Gift Unopened! A celebration of the Birth of Jesus through song and music and interaction. Look for the Christmas Eve invitations later in the month and begin now to plant the seeds of expectation with your friends to join you this Christmas Eve.

This Sunday!
What happens when you get weary of the challenges of life? There is a normal tendency to become disoriented and passionless. Looking at Hebrews 12:3-13, we’re going to see what the writer to the Hebrew people had to say about divine discipline and the goal of life. Be sure to allow room for new guests, each Sunday we’re going to see new people.
