Those words were penned many years ago in an effort to ensure that future generations were aware of the sacrifices of men and women to retain independence for our country of Canada. Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 NASB
When we think of war, we don’t often think of love, but I see soldiers defending our country as people with a great love for the masses of nameless, faceless others, as they give their energy, their time, their very lives on a daily basis for these people.
My own father was involved in the Second World War so when it comes around to Remembrance Day, I instinctively think of him and many others who defended our country.
Now, the country they defended has changed and It’s sorrowing to say, that our country hasn’t necessarily improved. Wars are still going on, but now the fight is here on our own soil and it’s against enemies that are attacking the moral fibre of our society and particularly are opponents of Jesus Christ.
There are days when it may seen as if in Canada, everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes with little or no regard to what God thinks. That can be discouraging, but wait, Jesus has some things to say to those of us in the Battle.
“Greater is he who is in you…
“Draw near to God, resist the devil…
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We received all of this by coming to know him…” 2 Peter 1:3 NLT
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 NASB
The champion is on our side and invites us to enter the daily life of challenge with His strength, his weapons, his strategy.
Back to love...that is still his strategy. To demonstrate true authentic love to all people in all circumstances, at all times.
We are called to be witnesses to the transforming power of his forgiveness and love for the war that we wage is not against physical beings, but against spiritual powers and principalities, and therefore, requires His Holy Spirit in direct control of your life.
Lest we forget...the Life Jesus called us to live, is a life of daily dependence on his power, his life, his love working through us to touch the people we encounter and stand for freedom.
Lest we forget...to remember
Lest we forget...to love
Lest we forget...others!
On Saturday, if you see a Veteran, go over and say, “Thank You!” and tell them that we won’t forget.
Pastor Brian
