That’s the question I have been asking myself these past few days. There’s something wrong with me. I don’t feel good. I don’t seem to have any ambition. I don’t want to be here in Winnipeg but I’m not sure where it is I’d like to be. All this-- after a week in Mexico at Christmas. Something must be wrong.
In speaking with others, it seems like these first few days in January 2007 have been difficult days! Depressing! Hard Slugging!
Let me tell you…...this is very normal for us. We’ve all had the unusually high sensations of Christmas preparations, guests, traveling and shopping. Our visual stimuli has been pushed to the limit! Bright lights, decorations, and food….lots of food. Our homes at times could have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens as we’ve gone all out to make our home presentable for Christmas and guests. A slight change for top candidate for Complete Home Makeover! But Now!!!! Decorations are down and packed away, lights are unplugged, gifts are put away or returned. So it should be a “down time” and besides, winter has shown up in Winnipeg. That big dump of snow on December 31st seemed to have buried more than our driveways...how about our comfort and joy too.
If you can relate to this, take your Bible and turn to Psalm 42 and read it slowly and carefully. The writer is discouraged and remembers back (in vs. 4) to better days. Days of celebrating and leading the people in worship and joyful singing. Sounds a bit like Christmas. But now….he is discouraged. Read what he does…...O.K., I’ll tell you, but promise to read it later. “I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my savior and my God!”
If you keep on reading you’ll find the same phrase repeated. He is stating what we need to do this January...stop looking around and focus your heart, your mind, your will on God. Today...light a candle….plug in a light again, read some scripture, call a friend, but sit with God for a while and put your hope back in Him.
Enjoy the week! The news from the angel is still true today. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people!” Reconnect with the God of Joy & Hope & Peace & Love.
