Are there stars out tonight?

That was the question that my youngest asked me the other day as we arrived at a camping site just outside of Calgary. We could not see the stars at the time because of all the other lights in our area, but I assured her that although we could not see them.....they were indeed out. Later that night when we were aware from the light pollution that encases our cities, I looked up and was once again astounded by the number of stars that were "out". Millions of stars were almost filling the night sky and although I'm over 50 years old now, I still found myself uncontrollably saying....Wow! God's handiwork was displayed with brilliance and detail and awesomeness! The words that came immediately to mind were those from Psalm 19..."The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge."(NASB) I have found in the times of reflection during my sabbatical that it is very easy to allow our lives to get polluted by the other lights in our lives and we become unable to see the handiwork of God because we become, quite honestly, enamored with our own creations or the creations of others. Like the stars in the heavens.....there are many great things that are hidden from our eyes because, I think, we have allowed lessor things to temporarily hide them.
Today or maybe tonight....I invite you look past the light pollution in your area and look out into Space to see the stars that God has placed there, maybe even take a look inside your life and see if there is a little pollution that you have allowed to creep into your life.
Looking for opportunities to see God's handiwork.
In His peace,
Pastor Brian
