Christ our Refiner

This communion Sunday we will again be looking at another name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that of Jesus Christ our Refiner.

In Malachi 3:3, he uses the illustration of a refiner refining silver to show how God will refine and purify those who believe in Him, those people are God’s silver. That is how much God’s loves us, we aren’t just some cheap rock that gets thrown away, we are as precious as silver, we are God’s treasure. He is more then willing to sit at the refinery and turn the heat up in our lives so that he can clear away all the dross, the sin and gunk in our lives so that we too can be pure, pure silver in his eyes.

To help you prepare for communion on Sunday, I urge you to take some time and read through the book of Malachi. As you read through it, pretend that he is writing this for you and take this time to think about your commitment to Christ and how genuine your worship and obedience is to Him. Once you are done, allow God, through His love and forgiveness, to restore your relationship with Him and be willing to let yourself be refined by our wonderful refiner, Jesus Christ.

Thank you Kevin, for those challenging yet encouraging words on Sunday. I'm always amazed at how God reinforces the things He's trying to teach us. We've been talking in Sunday School about God shining His searchlight on us, and the tendency is to brood on all the bad things (dross) He/we will find there. But it's just like God to accentuate the positive - His real purpose is to bring out that hidden treasure He knows we are. And then He reinforced that positive thought again when Sharlene quoted Yancey in the Prayer Link..."underneath the layers of grime lies a damaged work of art that God longs to repair.." Let's think about that!
